7月27日に予定されているロンドン・オリンピック開会記念式典でポール・マッカートニーの“ヘイ・ジュード”で式典を締めくくることになるという。

予算2700万ポンドをかけ、映画監督のダニー・ボイルが総指揮を執っているこの記念式典は6万人が詰めかけるストラトフォード・オリンピック・スタジアムで行われ、9時に開会し、3時間後のおよそ真夜中にポールが自身のライヴで式典を締めくくることになるという。

もともとポールはエリザベス女王の在位60周年記念コンサートでも“ヘイ・ジュード”を演奏するようにとのリクエストもあったのを断ったとされていて、これがにわかに“ヘイ・ジュード”はポールのオリンピック・セットリストに含まれているのではないかという噂をかきたてていたが、ここにきて関係者筋が“ヘイ・ジュード”"が式典のフィナーレを飾る曲となることを『サンデイ・タイムス』紙に語ったという。

なおボイル監督の演出ではスタジアムに緑豊かな田園地帯としてのイギリスの光景を作り出してみせる一方で、荒涼とした工業地帯の風景も交錯していくものとなって、イギリスの社会や経済の歩みを明暗ともに扱いながら振り返っていくスペクタクルとなっているという。

その最終演目としてポールがライヴを届けることになるが、その最終曲として"ヘイ・ジュード"を演奏し、会場に詰めかけた観客全員を巻き込んだ大合唱フィナーレになるそうだ。
