映画監督ダニー・ボイルが総監督を務め、音楽監督をアンダーワールドが務める7月27日に開催されるロンドン・オリンピック開催式典だが、その式典で流される音源に含まれる86トラックの楽曲の曲目が流出して明らかになっている。
オリンピック実行委員会は流出したプレイリストについてなんのコメントもしていないが、おそらく実際のものに相当近いものに違いないと『ザ・テレグラフ』紙が伝えている。
式典には2700万ポンド（訳34億8千万円）もの総予算がかかっていると推定され、式典パフォーマンスと併せて流される音源としてこれら86曲の楽曲をアンダーワールドがひとつのサウンドトラックに仕上げているという。
特に話題を呼びそうなのはセックス・ピストルズの“ゴッド・セイヴ・ザ・クイーン”も含まれていることで、この曲のモチーフとなった女王エリザベスⅡ世は開幕式そのものを執り行うことになっている。その一方で戦争映画『暁の出撃』のテーマ曲など、愛国的な楽曲も使われている。
また、このリストではザ・ジャムの“ゴーイング・アンダーグラウンド”やザ・クラッシュの“ロンドン・コーリング”などのヒット曲は含みながらも、女王の即位60周年記念コンサートに出演したポール・マッカートニー、エルトン・ジョン、トム・ジョーンズ、クリフ・リチャーズらイギリスの大御所ミュージシャンや、ロビー・ウィリアムズやゲイリー・バーロウらもおそらく意識的に除外されている。
なお、ポールは開幕式の最後にパフォーマンスを予定している。
